I think they basically said "We got you dead to rights, bucko. You can either honor your merger agreement and pay them the severance due them or stonewall, in which not only do they get their money but we get a nice chunk as well (in the form of legal fees and penalties under state/federal labor law)."

Funny thing about those penalties, Gen: under federal labor law, those penalties would have to be paid out of pocket by Musk himself, not by Twitter.
