Have you come across forums where the owner (and maybe even all of the staff team) is completely missing. They don't login at all and haven't for an extended period of time.

How do you feel about that?

Seen this several times. If nobody is around after a month or two then I'll just delete my bookmark and stop going there. Eventually the domain and hosting is going to expire and it'll go offline on its own so why should I bother continuing to be there.

Well I'm certainly not going to look for them. :p So long as the owner hasn't paid for 10 years of hosting it won't take long before the site goes down.

Oh wait... Forums on free hosts that abandon their forums could stay up indefinitely. I've seen a few free hosted forums that haven't had a post in over a decade.

Wow. Usually if I sign up to a free host for testing or whatever they threaten to delete the forum.

SMF is an okay software but not a place I'd want to spend all my time in 2023.

10 years ago it was decent but now I expect more.

None of the free software do much massive updates these days.

Everything Invisionfree, Zetaboards, and IPBFree is gone-zo, I believe. I was pretty hurt when my old forum fell off the face of the Earth without warning.

Make some! :D
Small aside, I used to make themes for Invisionfree, and one time, I made a series of themes that were simple and straightforward. They were simple, but they were my first. I remember the support forum for Invisionfree where I had been a member three years and had accrued 2,000 posts deleted my account without a warning at all. Blew my mind.

Yes. There's an anime forum that I joined back in 2008 that does this even though the owner still pays on everything. He just doesn't log in for several months.
