I'm always curious about beets; I like pickled beets, but other than that how do you fix/cook them?
It is easy to cook beets you can boil, steam and more but my favourite is to roast them ..... just wrap the beets individually in foil and place them on a foil lined baking sheet...wait for 40 minutes to an hour depends of the size ...
drizzle some olive oil before you wrap them so wont stick to the foil while cooking can add salt and pepper if you like

Thank You! That sounds very similar to the way I bake a sweet potato. I love easy, simple ways to fix things. (y)

It's what you call banana flower. I hope I can post image here. You can find it in every banana tree at the tip of the fruit.

I googled a pic, never seen that before. Does it taste like a banana?

Okay! I roasted a beet. :D Before wrapping in foil I rubbed it down with butter like I treat a sweet potato instead of OO. I tried some with and without salt....not sure which way I want to go with that.
So: the texture & taste seems very much like canned beets that I have had before. Don't know why, but I don't think I've ever bought/used a fresh beet before. I very much like the idea of fresh rather than mass processed food, so there will likely be more of this.
Think I will try soaking some sliced roasted beet in some balsamic vinegar in an attempt to make some pickled beets.

That's nice you did try it .. and yes taste the same as canned, the only difference to me is that the fresh have a little more stronger earthy flavour ... it is one of the vegetables that does not taste different the fresh and the canned... i do use the canned beets also often when i want something quick to make or didn't planned from before.

Pickled beets sound nice ..
I know vinegar goes well with beets many recipes with that too
