Arsenio carves out a niche in the white, late-night world by showcasing hip-hop artists and emerging talent. Despite his success, Arsenio becomes a casualty in the late-night wars.
 
I'm waiting for them to explain how anybody thought that having the audience barking like dogs was a positive thing for the show.

Thing about that show back in the day (late 80/early-mid 90's) was that when it first aired, it caught a lot of eyeballs that were getting turned off from both Carson's show and Letterman's show, especially in urban (read: black) neighborhoods who were looking for something different. There was also the fact that he was willing to musical talents and entertainers on who might not've gotten airtime elsewhere (particularly w/regards to hip hop, R and B and rap acts) - the list of musical acts in those genres could fill a Murderer's Row of great talents. There was also the fact that it was a sign of how serious Fox was at challenging the Big 3 networks for media share and they did it.
