First time I heard of GCW was when Matt Cardona and Nick Gage the Bank-Addicted Drug Robber, Meth Head McGee, had that epic hardcore match....per the Tropes,

Awesome - Matt Cardona went from undercard WWE joke to beating Nick Fucking Gage for the GCW Championship, and he did it by beating Gage in the latter's signature Deathmatch. Of note was Cardona's white singlet turning absolutely crimson red with all the glass shards that sliced through his body.

YMMV - As Matt Cardona, he recently became one again after defeating Nick Gage in Gage's signature deathmatch and becoming GCW Champion. Detractors didn't like it that a former mainstream WWE stooge came in and took the title from a folk hero like Gage, while other at least respect Cardona for actually fighting through a deathmatch and bleeding buckets for the win.

Yes, the former WWE star known as Zack Ryder took on the king of deathmatch in his own backyard and won. #AlwayzReady
