Something has changed in America’s psyche. Violence has become more acceptable. It’s not just that we’ve seen two attempted – and very nearly successful – attacks on Donald Trump’s life, it’s that a worrying number of young Americans cheered on those attempted assassinations and still wish they had succeeded.
Since early this year there has been widespread public support for smashing up Tesla dealerships – and for shooting Elon Musk. An unprecedented 10,000 new threats have been made against Senate and congressional members just this year, according to Capitol Police.
Applause for the actual murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December goes on, unabated, online. His handsome young accused killer, Luigi Mangione, is praised, respected and even worshipped by a small – but growing – social media community. Elias Rodriguez, the man accused of killing two Israeli embassy officials in Washington on May 21, had praised Mangione on his social media.

I think they need to do an overhaul and reassess their priorities. When you push certain demographics away, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they didn’t vote for you.

Others standing above the closed southbound 101 Freeway threw chunks of concrete, rocks, electric scooters and fireworks at California Highway Patrol officers and their vehicles that were parked on the highway. Based on what I’ve seen from a lot of extremists on the left, the logic is basically: if you support something you view as “morally right”, the means of achieving that cannot be criticized on anything because you’re supporting the “correct” thing.

Based on what I’ve seen from the extremists in places like Bluesky, Reddit, and Twitch streamers, all the violence is justified because they thing deporting illegal immigrants is wrong, and destroying and robbing those stores is okay because capitalism is bad, and it’s okay to steal from multi-billion dollar corporations.

Yeah 90% of Twitch streamers are liberals, if you don't fall in line with their beliefs they will go on X or wherever and demand you speak out on those issues.

Pretty much. If someone does something where essentially nobody criticizes you, people jumping to defend the action, and you have people congratulating you, you end up getting conditioned into thinking it’s acceptable behavior.

A lot of those guys hang out in isolated echo chambers, so they don’t really get exposed to any criticism, or if there is criticism, their social group comforts them and tells they’re doing the “right” thing, and the critics are “wrong” because of whatever reason.
