Is paid forum software overrated?

Sometimes though, if you're a foruming 'newby' & are obsessed with a certain personality; then when you find a forum that has all of the best & newest "inside scoop" on that persona, you might pay whatever they're asking. :)

Well.....I guess it's like if you're just going "ga-ga" over a particular TV or radio personality & someone forms a 'fan' forum covering all of the latest 'happenings' re: this certain person including frequent postings by the celebrity & wants to charge a monthly fee for membership to the forum.

Okay....clear as mud?? o_O:LOL:

Sounds like a good way to make money.

Speaking solely from personal experience, I've used just about every "free" forum script, and many of the paid ones, and there just isn't a comparison. Some free ones have good features, and what not, but I simply found that paid ones just offer more IMO.

It depends on what DIY I want to do. I don't mind it.

I've been wanting to try these themes from Planet Styles, so that's one reason I like phpBB.

I'm using one now on two sites.

I mean, what's the big deal if you use free? Well, it's definitely a lot cheaper and while you get what you pay for, that doesn't always translate into "junk".
I agree, Jason.

My message board is free, it is a ProBoard.
