Have you had to deal with any drama in your time spent on forums?

What was it about? How did everyone get over it?

There was a forum that I was a member of that was nothing but drama. There were members at each others throats and posting nasty and negative things. They would deliberately troll a thread and take it so off topic it was useless. The moderators on this forum have their special pet members that can do no wrong. If you dared complain and the moderators didn't like you then you either received an infraction or got banned for a week. The only way I got over it was to leave the forum. I have enough drama in RL that I don't need it online too.

Of course I have. Drama is just part of forums and I don't really mind it either. It makes things interesting and can be exciting. I'm sure I'm probably completely opposite of most people on that thought though.

I think everyone has seen their fair share of drama on a forum. It's only sad when it seems like it's what the forum is all about like the one that Jazzy mentioned.

The trick while hard is to not care about it or let it bother you. You are by default likely to care but when you stop caring is the only time when it will mostly stop at least drama that involves you.

Still I do find it amusing watching other people get riled up over a forum and care so much about something that matters so little to them is funny. XD

Ive recently been on a couple forums that were very dramatic and it makes me happy that we don't have those types of issues/people here. *knock on wood*

Much, which is probably why in the past I have garnered the want to take things more seriously on the internet. When I was younger, meaning fairly below ten, I ran a web site that was offered a merge with another web site to further the possibility of success, well I declined and instead of moving on with his life he continuously visited my web site utilizing another username until I revealed him for a liar, he made a banner before that which I was using, I banned him while still using the banner and he kept sending me what now I know to be false letters threatening to sue me over copyright. It has been more than five years and the fucker still sends me messages from time to time trying to harass me.

That honestly sounds like a forum I know of that I've been a part of for years now.

I quit being a troll to others. I mainly just troll the troll sometimes without being called a troll.

It gets you nowhere on the internets. It's sad for those who do it EVERYDAY of their life though.

It's called Hobby. lol. I would suppose so.

*edit*...hey is it just me or is the graphic above like, cut in half?

n/m loaded fine when I refreshed.

Yes, every now and again.

There was this girl who always complained about things, eventually my friend made his own forum that was just like it. He didn't want her on it, but eventually he let her. She still complained too. He found that she was always causing drama. (But back in February she died because she met mr.alcohol, and she hasn't caused any drama anymore obviously)

My friend wanted to bring a friend onto a forum, but he was a stalker. So he wasn't allowed and there was this whole fight, and someone else started flaming him and it wasn't pretty.

I cause drama alot sometimes, but just for expressing my opinion.

One time I said I think gays are cooler than straight people and everyone got all up in mah grill about it, I haven't been on the forum since I said they were being mean to me. That was like a month ago already.

Another time someone was telling me to stop posting pictures of guys in the hot or not section. I told the admin and he posted a bulletin saying that they do not discriminate! So I had won that.

This happened again, but in a topic where you post anime Ecchi. The guys got all pissed that I started posting guys. One of them said that they do not discriminate, the other. I don't know cause I haven't been on it since.

Would you care to tell me what forum that was?

There's always some sort of drama. It does make for interesting reads and sometimes one can't resist the jumping in and getting a good vent. However, if its the same drama that keeps repeating itself with the same characters then it gets to the point where you're just done reading it.

I used to frequent a forum (which I'll be fair enough not to name) where drama was (and I believe still is) not only condoned, but even encouraged by the forum staff. It took me awhile to realize it, though, so I spent a great deal of time wondering why everyone are allowed to slit each other's proverbial throats and get away with it without so much as a slap on the proverbial wrist. The fact it was the first forum I ever joined and as such didn't know anything about online communities and their dynamics didn't help.

Anyway, regardless of the topic at hand, disagreeing with someone was almost guaranteed to get you negative reputation, since the forum uses positive / negative reputation system, regardless of how polite and respectful you were and how well you presented and explained your arguments. Each negative reputation entry was accompanied with some snarky, sarcastic or simply insulting comment.

So, in addition to drama over the thread topic, extra drama would ensue when someone decided to take a screenshot oh his / her User Control Panel showing the received reputation entries, cropped out the unnecessary stuff, leaving only the entry in question, posted it in the thread with an angry "WHO DID THIS?!!!" question, since the administrators set the system to keep the name of the person who gave the reputation hidden to prevent revenge neg-repping.

Sometimes a single post would receive negative reputation from several members, which did nothing but enraged the person on a receiving end of the stick, which, of course, was what the perpetrators were aiming for anyway. This most was common in political and religious debates where everyone firmly stood their opposing grounds, deeply entrenched in their clashing believes & opinions.

Staff members were more than happy to foster & encourage such behavior, either by simply doing nothing to prevent it, or by basically giving the victim a proverbial middle finger with "that's how we do things around here and if you don't like it - leave" condescending response to their complaints.

I simply stopped visiting the place when the activity dropped low enough (I guess they managed to chase decent members away and most of the trolls left on their own when they ran out of people to troll) and the staff showed no intention whatsoever to do anything about it, but preferred to pull rank and simply dismiss their members instead of answering their legitimate questions & concerns.

@Smiley; What a terrible place and obviously the owner and staff didn't care anything about their members. Yes, we've had drama here, but never let it get to the point where the trolls were running the forum and the staff ignored it. We pride ourselves in treating everyone with respect and kindness but that doesn't always work. Sometimes even after reasoning with a member and giving them a second chance, it's done and we have to say goodbye to them. We're a friendly bunch here but also have limits on what's good and not good for the well being of this community.
