As an admin do you act /make decisions based on your emotions or do you try to put your emotions aside to handle situations?

As a former administrator at a successful magic community, and an experienced moderator, I usually try to avoid letting my feelings intervene with my performance, but if I am too upset about something, I'll stay out of it to avoid saying anything I would potentially regret later on down the road, or at least until I've cooled off, at all possible. I've had to learn that the hard way. Now having witnessed & experienced the consequences on acting on emotions up close and personal, I have come to a conclusion--think before you speak. Sure would have helped if my parents had told me that sooner in life!

When a member gets on your nerves--for whatever reason, trolling, being an idiot, being a pest, or whatever--you should go into the staff room, over dose on chocolate, throw things around until you get given a boquet of roses, then act like nothing happened.....

I've just 'heard' about admins that act like that....

When you act on your emotions and personal feelings towards someone, chances are you going to do something you regret or it might have a domino effect.. Best to remain level headed and make the decision as the adminstrator not the pissed off regular member.

If you are going to act on emotions then step back. Ask another Admin or Mod to deal with it. When you can't do this then you also should step down from your staff position. Emotions running rampant against a clear head is nothing but trouble. Once you say something in writing then there is no going back.

Isn't that why they invented the eraser and edit button?

If you get to it quick enough before anyone sees it then yes.
