Do advertisements on forums bother you? (could be ad banners, boxes, those little text link ads that produce a bubble ad when you mouse over, etc, etc)

Have you ever been on a forum that went overboard on the ad banners / boxes?

What is acceptable to you?

Anything that isn't overly big and doesn't move, flash, make noises or expand upon mousing over it is fine by me. They don't bug me too much.

I don't mind picture ads but flash ads annoy me. Heck one time I tried to watch a video but I had to watch a trailer for some crappy looking film for over 2 minutes

Basic advertisements are fine with me, as long as they are not obnoxious, and I have an opt-out ability. The basic YouTube ones are a good example; just a little box on the side. Ones that pop-up without any obvious closing ability annoy me, and the forced video ones are the worst.

I agree with this ^.

If they dont flash and dont slow the loading speed much, they are fine. Dont have a problem with em tills theres more ads then content.

I sure have. If you're not a paying member, half the screen if filled with ads. Then there's a message that says: Want to get rid of these annoying ads? Just click here. When you click where they tell you to, it brings you to their pay pal page where you can chose different payment options. For example: a 6 month membership will cost $16 per year.

This was not acceptable to me. I don't like being forced to pay just to get rid of the ads. Needless to say, I no longer post on that forum.

I only sell text ads on my site. Actually, that isn't the case. I also have Adsense but I make peanuts at best on that.

Ads on forums are fine for me. Some people need a little bit of cash to get themselves some coffee and that is perfectly fine.

What bothers me are administrators that place ads in places to try and make money off of them. Forums are not much money makers and I don't really know why administrators will go out of their way to essentially annoy their members by placing ads in ridiculous places.

I've seen some forums where ads are placed in the sigs of every member and that was overkill.

Forums are built to share information, if there is something impeding that process, such as advertisements, you are, in my opinion, making a horrible decision that could affect your forum greatly.

No one wants to be annoyed by ads...

As long as it doesn't make a website/forum/blog look too ad-y, having either one or 2 advertisements on a page is fine.

I don't have a problem with it.
