Its common knowledge that a forum's total member count does not represent the amount of regular members who are actively involved. Not every single account created here is going to be a dedicated regular member. You'll see that on any forum.

Well I've been a bit quiet last few days for personal
reasons, but I'm back now.
I think your right Nebulous, I've seen many forums with loads
of members but only a handful of posters, it can be rather
frustrating for the Admins too, especially those trying to get
new forums off the ground.

And it depends on the threads you look at too.
It's been my personal experience that most forums are slower in the summer months. Members are busy spending time outside and/or enjoying their summer breaks from school. This is also the time that members go on vacation/holiday. It all picks back up once members are stuck inside due to the cold weather setting in and some members going back to school. I have never been on a forum where there are 800 members and they are all posting. Like Nebulous mentioned, the member count does not reflect the amount of active and dedicated members that post daily. We have a good size active and dedicated member base. As also stated, it depends on what threads you are looking at as some are more active than others. Give us a chance and you'll see for yourself that once summer is over, things will pick back up.
I never said l expected 800 members to be posting all at once.
I said that l find it hard to believe with a membership close to 800 that everyone is busy at the same time.
And yes l'm aware that the time of year can play into it as well and also the threads l'm following.
But this thread itself has seen more action then any l've noticed since joining granted it's only been a couple of days.
With almost 800 members that's a healthy number and imo should be a bit more active then it is.
I'm not a novice on these sites, l've been on a few. Some with more members, some with less but one thing among them all is constisant....you only get out what you put in.
I'm not going anywhere as l like the layout and overall set up and l'll try to light a fire under some people to get them more active.

With all due respect, if I wanted to join a chat room l would.
The problem l find with chat rooms is it limits people to a couple of lines and also if there are a few people talking, l feel rather rude just to butt in with what l have to say.
In the forums one could go into great detail with their thoughts and opinions and it doesn't prevent others from joining in.
If l feel the need to have a private chat with any member, l'll use my messenger feature.

I was just there and can see that it's far more active then the forums at this point in time.
That is a good place should someone just want to chat about anything and everything but nothing in particular.
For me personality l much rather focus on a stated topic and post my opinions and read the opinions and thoughts of others.
But l said that's more a personal choice then anything else.
