I've visited several forums where the announcements are locked and/or members don't have sufficient privileges to post replies in that forum (read only).

Do you think an announcement forum should allow member replies & participation? Why or why not?

I don't see what the issue is in letting people reply to announcements as I don't see the harm in it. If there is a question, then it can be asked and if they want to comment on it then what's the harm in it?

I think its best to allow replies to announcements. Gives the community members a chance to acknowledge the new happenings. It makes them feel like they are a part of whats going on, which they are. :)

Depends on the announcement. If I feel it could garner conversation, then yes, I'll allow it to have comments, but if it's just a note of sorts that could easily be taken to PM, I'd rather it be read only.

I agree with you there, KyngzIndeyen. Admins who lock Announcements must be scared of criticism.

Of course announcement threads should be open to replies from members. If they have a question about it, what better place to ask and see the answer than the announcement thread? Denying members access to post in those would probably result in many PM's being sent to the admin to ask questions.

Seconding this because it's 100% true, based on my experience.
