WPVI-Philadelphia: ANTARES ROCKET EXPLODES AFTER LIFTOFF IN VIRGINIA
WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (WPVI) -- An unmanned rocket has exploded moments after liftoff in Virginia Tuesday evening.
"A mishap has occurred at pad 0A," the launch conductor said during the live broadcast on NASATV. "There is no indication there is personnel in danger. Although we do have significant property damage and significant vehicle damage."
The Antares rocket was on its way towards the International Space Station.
The rocket was carrying 5,000 pounds of NASA cargo.
A Monday launch attempt was canceled because a boat was inside the range safety zone southwest of the launch pad.
