Apple iPhone users warned over ‘Masque’ apps which hijack your phone
Apple iPhone users often think their devices are ‘immune’ to computer viruses and other threats – but a hi-tech new attack known as ‘Masque’ could allow cybercriminals unlimited access to data, passwords and photos inside smartphones.

The United States government’s computer emergency readiness team (CERT) issued an official warning, saying that Masque could be used to steal passwords (potentially allowing access to online bank accounts) as well as monitoring email and other activity on infected devices.

Once installed, the rogue apps replace trusted apps with fake versions – so a smartphone’s banking apps, email applications and so on slowly become replaced with fake versions that send information to cyber gangs.

The only way to avoid infection by Masque is to install apps only from Apple’s App Store.

Do any of you use this app?
