What do you think of music artists who switch genres?

Have any you're a fan of done this and do you follow them to their new genre or stick to their old stuff?

Some people consider them 'posers' in their new genre. Is this fair or unfair?
 
I'm open minded and will give their new stuff a shot, if it sounds good then its all good. If it sucks then I will just SMH. :P
