An autistic guy arrested as his comment towards a female police officer "You look like my lesbian nana" was interpreted to be homophobic.

Well, he was released on bail. I feel pity as I can only empathise with him, given my understanding of differing thought processes of those neurodiverse.
The question is how do we draw the line between abuse and a part of someone's condition?
Personally? Easier said than done, and easy to say with hindsight, especially as I also empathise with the amount of abuse police are probably facing on a daily basis - I think the police should have clarified directly with an "excuse me?" prior to an escalation. Although I do understand the police's low tolerance threshold.

They can probably get the charges dropped if his family can prove that he has autism in court. The lawyer fees will cost them a pretty penny.

While I condemn discriminatory attitudes, I don't think someone should be arrested unless the person is being harassed.

Why do you expect a video?

@Nebulous can’t be bothered to read an article? 😱

It takes less time to read an article than watch a video surely? 🤣

If you read the article, you'd see that the first sentence says "A video uploaded to TikTok by her mother showed the girl being detained by seven officers outside her home in Leeds early on Monday 7 August."
....so lets see that TikTok video!

What guy? The article is talking about a girl who said that.

I think some cops lack understanding in their jobs that lead up to these incidents. I have talked to some cops that weren't friendly at all.

It's not even specifically cops that lack understanding, it's people in general. There are a lot of folks who refuse to acknowledge mental health and completely ignore it. However, there's also people who want to be understanding, but can't - and I completely get that. Folks with Autism don't even understand themselves and why they do the things they do. However, not being able to understand someone with Autism is no excuse for lacking empathy. Even in modern times, there is still a very big negative stigma around mental health.

I wonder how these unfriendly cops got their jobs in the first place. Well, I suppose it’s easy enough to put on a facade for a short period of time i.e, during the interview

Of course I read the article that I posted 🤣

Mate, I just don’t pay attention to all those such details, will you ever forgive me? 🤪
