I hate when forums make you automatically subscribe to all the topics you create or reply to. Before you know it, you go to your inbox and there is a million email notifications of replies to these topics you didnt even know you were subscribing to!

Good thing I have a separate account I use to register on forums and I dont really care if the inbox gets filled up with nonsense, but its kind of ridiculous when I clear out my inbox and a day later I have over a hundred new emails, most of which are just email notifications of auto-subscribed topics.

Does this annoy you?

not at all...........cos like you i use a junk email account just to sign up to places...........i tend to check in twice a week just to see if theres anything of value gone there and then delete 4 /5 hundred notifications at once

I also have a separate account I use to register on forums. I check the account once a week and just delete them all. It doesn't annoy me since I'm using a separate account.

Subscriptions should be something the member decides on. They might think to themselves, Hey this an interesting topic, I'm going to subscribe to it.

^ That should be the extent of how the feature is used on a forum. Auto-subscriptions to every single created/replied topic on a forum is an abuse of a good feature.

Just my opinion..

Imagine what the guy who posts on all the forum game threads not knowing he's been auto subscribed to them all. lol that should be the one good way to show how auto subscribing people to everything is a bad idea. I had my share of experiences with this feature and I only found it annoying. I made a good point of looking for the off switch so I could shut it off whenever I came across a forum with that sort of feature.

I have to agree with the opening poster, the worse forum software for this is xenforo but when I register for first time, I alter it so I do nt get any notices what so ever, including topic replies, pms etc and even block admins from emailing me as well.

What forum software doesn't allow members to disable their auto-subscriptions?

They shouldnt have to disable anything, the member should be the one who initiates it in the first place.

I never thought about creating another account for forum joining! I might just do that haha! But yes i hate this so bad!
