(The Guardian) Student loan announcement now imminent
An announcement on forgiving some student loan debt appears to be set for Wednesday, according to the Washington Post political team.

Earlier the paper had reported there was a White House “feud” over the issue, saying: “The White House’s close allies are feuding over whether the administration should cancel up to $10,000 in student debt for millions of American borrowers.”

It added: “Internal White House discussions have centered on temporarily extending that pause and simultaneously canceling $10,000 per borrower for those below an income threshold, but the president has not yet communicated a decision, according to two people familiar with the matter, speaking on the condition of anonymity to reflect private conversations. Another person familiar with the talks said $10,000 is among the options being considered.”

But according to a tweet from WashPo reporter Jeff Stein, Biden has now made his mind up. Stein says: “UPDATE: President Biden’s long-awaited student loan announcement IS coming tomorrow, ppl tell me & @DaniDougPost Parameters TBD but WH has been looking at $10K in cancelation per borrower under $125K/yr”

People took loans they knew they couldn’t payoff or knew it would put them in debt for a long time and now they want me and my fellow people who didn’t take debt we couldn’t payoff to pay for the stupidest generation in the history of America.

In a word, yes.

I wonder how I'm supposed to justify this to my kid who WORKED her way through school + got student loans and struggled many, many years to pay those loans off with no help from her parents? How does this action serve to teach kids any responsibility whatsoever? :cautious:

👍

The only thing this is, is to make young people 100% loyal to the one and only god we call government. Responsibility and self reliance is not expected or wanted from your god, only unquestioned loyalty!

Lawsuits are flying already, this will end up in the Supreme Court. I don’t think this will stand very long.

Poopy pants Brandon going for the mush for brains group that are easily influenced. I mean what about the military members who took out college loans. I don’t want any of it but at least these people served our country and contributed to society.

It is a small step in the right direction but I am not certain how far it will even go towards addressing the issue. They really need to address the structural issues behind the tertiary costs and loan structure.

How is this the right step in anyway? Why should the middle class pay billions potentially trillions because now everyone is going demand someone else pay for their stupid decision making.

They've got the GI Bill, they earned it.

For 36 months. Name a serious profession like doctor, engineer, etc these days that requires college you can finish in a year and half. Between half ass medical care vets are treated like that step child you don’t want.

They have fucked the middle class with this and it’s unconstitutional and not in the powers of the president. This needs to be stomped out in court.

You keep repeating my hopes that every level of government in the states and federal governments ignore each other for a disbanding of thee Union.
In which I'll have no problem seeing Washington stomp the guts out of Florida and Texas and any other wayward the way they should've done to the South post-1865.
