Blockbuster closes 180 stores

Movie-rental giant Blockbuster Inc. will close 180 stores by the end of the first quarter.

I hope they dont close the store by my house. We used to have like 6 blockbusters in my town and now we are only down to two. One by my house and one WAY on the other side of town. If they close my local store, I'll probably sign up for netflix or something.

Call me old fashioned but I like going to the store, browsing around, physically picking up a movie and reading the description on the back. Ive done the online movie thing before and I didnt really care for it but it works I suppose.

I dont have cable and just get the basic broadcast channels (Fox, NBC, CBS, CW, PBS, etc). I dont really have much time to watch tv, and when I do, I'd rather watch a good movie.

You're not alone, Nebulous. I too prefer actually going out and buying/renting movies rather than shopping online. I only shop online as a last resort, and that case is only if I can't find anything even so much in a second hand shop.

I can't find anything even so much in a second hand shop.

They have VHS movies for $1 and DVD's for $2 at a local thrift store here. I usually find some good movies there.

I'm surprised Blockbuster clung to life this long, still. They're going the way of Netflix, too, though, but they're a bit too late on the draw, and I figure that Netflix will soon be antiquated as things go full-streaming. I wasn't a Netflixer until fairly recently, because going to Blockbuster seemed convenient still, but I found the choices were always a bit weak, and their prices were going up where I was, to where it wasn't worth it anymore. The store closed where I've been anyway.

Unfortunately I don't live in California. Sorry. Those do sound like decent deals for used DVD's and VHS's though.
