THREE people were in hospital last night after a head-on crash on the A96 Elgin to Mosstodloch road.

Firefighters freed a woman from the wreckage after the accident, which happened at about 3.10pm.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said the casualties, an elderly man and two women, were taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital at Elgin.

A spokesman said: “One female has serious injuries but they are not though to be life-threatening.

“The other two are suffering from minor injuries.”

Three fire crews from Elgin, Fochabers and Rothes attended the incident, which involved a Ford Escort, Volkswagen Golf and Mitsubishi Warrior 4x4.

A Grampian Fire and Rescue service spokesman said: “One female casualty was trapped and there was smoke coming from the vehicle.

She was tended to by ambulance staff.”

The road was closed for more than two hours, leading to lengthy tailbacks.

Police said it had reopened by about 5pm.

Sound pretty bad. It caused a really big traffic jam (I know because I'm from that area)

I'd rather read in hospital than dead

Same here. But A96? I never heard of that before. Is that like a form of Interstate or something?

It's a road. It goes from the North-East of Scotland to the North West
