Basically, it sifts through the litter, making it last longer, and it has a grate that combs through it after each use, bringing the feces to a container at the top of it. Add a trash bag liner to it, and now, all you have to do is discard the trash bag and replace it, and you're finished. A lot better than having to scoop it out.
