Do the administrators of a community snoop on the competition?

I think we all have done this before. I did it to see what other Harvest Moon forums/sites were doing at the time for my own. I did it for some gaming sites and forums too.

Oh, also in a friendly way. I think it is neat to just see what other sites of your genre/niche are doing or have done.

I don't view any other forums as competition. We're all in this together :grouphug:
This^

Back in the old days of forums, a lot of forum owners were aggressively competitive.

Most of those forums are gone today.

I think aggressive competition helped kill forums in all honesty.

With social media, I made a social group and did no advertising and it have nearly 30,000 members. It would take years to get that on a forum, if it's even possible anymore.

If we don't work together, we will continue to watch this thing fall.

But I do feel it's healthy to watch your competition, learn what good and bad they're doing and focus on making your community better based on what you learn.

It's how businesses stay in business. The same concept is acceptable for an online community :)

I never recall too many of the Harvest Moon forums and sites being like this. I then again only stuck to one till I got older and moved on. It has since shut down completely as many stopped posting and using the forum. I think there was a Discord, but I left it. I admit I acted like a jackass on that forum and regret how I was. I did get better overtime! I believe the only active forum is Fogu/Ushi no Tane I think.

I'm the same as Nebby, forum owners and members need to support one another, we're a dying breed and we need as much cooperative collaboration as possible. It definitely wasn't like this before, with many forum admins hating other forums, it was quite sad, but thankfully that attitude has changed and we're all better off for it, imo.

That's what we must do.

Every time I see another admin forum pop up on the web, I'll join and give them posts frequently.

They're my "competition" if you want to call them that.

But if they succeed, that's one more forum that succeeds and since my forum is an admin forum, that means it has a better chance of being active.

So, I got to do my part to help them out

Yep, even when they fall into the same category as your own forum, helping one another grow is a good thing for everyone. The more active a forum can be, the better its' chances of attracting new blood and expanding their reach. It's the best possible way to help forums stay alive. I join as many as I can, but I have to have my limits, too, it can easily become too many!

....Unlike that other (large) admin forum that bans its competition if they mention any sort of admin forum. :P
