Criminalization of Holocaust denial

If someone admits it to a jury, when an oath of truth is to be taken, not really. Obviously it would just serve as a deterrent. The few loonies crazy enough to deny millions of Jews died, should go to jail. It was one of the worst scenes in history. I think it's ignorant to deny it.

Well, people can say whatever they want, no matter how offensive it may be.

Our jails are crowed enough. No need to put people away for such pettiness. This why local cops around here ignore a lot of crimes or just write out tickets, because it costs too much to take the time and effort to book people for insignificant crimes.

Pretty much. Its just words. Words only hurt if you want them too.

What if a family member of yours was lost in the Holocaust? Would you still want some lunatic to say it didn't happen? It hurts to all the families and friends that were lost in that ugly war.

Words hurt a lot more than you think.

Well if people went to jail for hurting people's feelings, we would have to build a jail on every street corner.

The Holocaust is must more than that. We can't just be blind to others' ignorance. This is a serious thing, and should be treated as such.

Its only as serious as you make it out to be. Words are only words.

People kill themselves over words. And they are not words. They are symbols of an event that did happen in History. Right to Religion, race, etc are protected in the Charter. (Or whatever it is called in many other countries). If I was to insult your Religion, openly hate your race, or talk about disrespect about women, I might get in serious trouble. What's different about this?

Then you (not you personally, but the person who would do this) would just get popped in the face or ignored. I don't care about your opinion if you are going to say stupid crap. Its not like your opinion matters to me anyways or will effect me (because I wont let it). I wouldn't try to send you to jail. Most logical people would act the same.

What if it continues to be a problem? What if I create a hate group? Even though we (imaginative group) have no intention of violence, is it still fine to spread this profanity?

I'm just saying maybe a small amount of jail time, or a large fine would help. It can't be ignored, nor disrespected. 10 million people died.

So what if a group of people share an opinion? How are they going to make it known to the world? Once they start breaking real laws, then they will be punished...

If you would prefer to live in a country where certain combination's of words get you sent to jail, then that's your preference. However I like my freedom of speech. No matter how offensive people can get. Like I said, its only words. Words are meaningless unless you add meaning to them.

So if I go up to some black person, and call him a fu****** ni***** should that be fine? It has no meaning to it using your thought, right?

No. It SHOULD NOT be accepted.

Its not against the law to say that.. You can if you want. However I wouldn't recommend you do that. Unless you want to get your ass kicked.

Then maybe I should get some ass kicking.

This really hits home because a teacher living a few hours from where I live was doing this, and teaching all of his grade 12 students the holocaust never happened. He failed kids that disagreed. He did this for a few years. It's his opinion though, right?

To him, it was fact. How can we deny his was any more wrong? We're all entitled to our opinions, and if he wants to alter the minds of many children, that's okay, hey?

It took 6 years before he was dismissed. Six years. A simple law would deter this.

Teachers follow curriculum provided to them by the school board, state, and local governments. I highly doubt that was in the curriculum that he was supposed to follow.
