Have you ever asked the admin to delete your account on a forum? Why did you do this?

If not, would you ever ask that or would you just abandon your account on that forum?

Yes I have asked admins to do that in the past. I've noticed these days that admin's actually refuse my request. That really pisses me off. I see no reason for someone to refuse it. I have had a couple of members on my forum ask for theyre account deleted and I have done it for them.

I did it only once. My friend started an adult forum and aksed me to be a Global Moderator. The site turned out to be embarrassing as she was posting nude pictures of herself and wanted me to do it also. I refused and we had an arguement. I didn't want to be associated any longer with her site so I asked for my account to be deleted. She not only deleted by account but also she banned my IP address.

I did on 2 forums one time when the staff were being complete jerks about something. Looking back, I'm glad they didn't delete my account, as the last thing I want happening is to register a new one. Account activation takes forever on that forum. I got upset over something utterly stupid and asked to have my account deleted. I also did in on one other site after the forum was sold because the new administrator was being a complete whack-job as well. Now I believe that the second reason would be a good enough ordeal to ask for your account to be deleted at any forum. The first reason would be way too immature.

Wow. That is just crazy. And I've honestly never seen the point in having my account deleted. If I didn't want to be on a site anymore. I'd just leave. And maybe one day come back.

I wouldn't ask for my account to be deleted, just in case I ever wanted to come back. In the case of the forum that pissed me off the most, I simply used a random password generator to change my password to something I didn't know and walked away. I could still go back if I wanted, but I doubt I'll be doing that.

Conversely, I've had people ask for their accounts to be deleted, and I've usually denied them (or, failing that, scrambled their information and buried their accounts). Deleting accounts makes a bunch of messy guest posts around the forum that have to be dealt with, and it completely defeats the purpose of member ownership if they remove the account that has access to edit and delete their posts. Then next thing you know they'll be asking you for posts and such back from members only sections and you'll have to either hunt them down or tell them tough luck. Easier just to say no, and sometimes that gives them time to cool down and they don't actually leave.

You come across the most phsco of folks on forums although I hasten to add I have only encountered the odd one.

In my experience of forums, the only reason a member would ask admin to delete an ccount, Is so they can take a few weeks away and then come back as a new member In a new user name and start their old trolling up again but thinking no-one will realise It is them.

What I would strongly reccomend to the admin here Is to note the IP address of the one who has asked you to delete their account and just check this when new members join.

When a troll gets busted on a forum and no-one will post with them, they know It Is futile staying on the forum In the user name they have. They have the account deleted and come back some weeks later with a new account and user name to try to win friends.

Another tactic that has been known on forums Is the dual Identity Issue, If a member Is deeply un-popular on a forum and despite all efforts has failed to make any friends or get members to post with them, they set another account from their pc In another user name so that they came come In with a different member to bolster their post. You can always spot these with IP addresses. We had one on FG a few months ago who turned up with another brand new member at the same time. When the IP addresses were checked, both were from the same building. When the Issue was raised, the member Insisted her side kick was a work colleague and they were using the same PC, but... where this fell down was that they would make a post In their name but then Immediately log off. Seconds later, the side-kick would log on posting that she agreed with the post they had just made. Then as soon as that was posted, they would log off and the first one would Immediately log back on.

If there Is genuinly two people using the same PC together at any one time, you do not have to keep logging In and out. You can run several sites at the same time and just flit from page to page.. So, that particular member got busted very quickly and If the side-kick was Indeed them, how pathetic can you get? Setting up another account and using It to agree with your own posts or In this case, to bolster an attack on another member.

Nebulous... Please check IP addresses with new members.

I've never asked but I wouldn't let people delete them on my forum.
