For those who have had depression or loved someone with depression, what is it like?

Smooth described it well, but for me I hate Summer, The heat makes me angry and the sun makes me miserable. The bitter cold warms my heart and I love trudging out in the snow or on a misty morning with my camera.

I have struggled with depression (although never been confirmed by doctors) for around 12 years. I was majorly bullied in school and had a horrendous childhood trauma.

I tend to want to be alone, drink and be miserable,
My friends, family and work collegues have no idea, I put on a mask, but then can't wait to get home to be alone. like Smooth said it is like a massive black cloud hanging above you. I have to get up to go to work, but i literally drag my self in, I have no energy, no focus, no motivation. One of my favourite lyrics - "This isn't living I'm only existing"
Like smooth I rarely cry, but when I go through a depressive phase I cry my eyes out.

I pretty much Get up, go to work, come home drink, listen to music, think about my life, go to bed and repeat the next day.

I had a major bad time all through last year and up to March this year, All I can describe is your day is filled with darkness, sorrow, despair, loneliness, anger (for me anyway) everything looks grey, there is no colour when I go through this.

I have not experienced depression and neither has anyone close to me in my family, but I've had plenty of friends who suffer from it. It's sad, yes, and you want to be able to help them in any way you can, but I've learned over the years that it's simply best to just be there for them, to provide an avenue where they can vent and be heard. It's important to encourage them and to love them despite what they're going through as that can help beyond words.
