I've been a part of one, but never have gotten to have one. I'd like to be able to afford to be able to do that kind of thing, but then again, I have no friends. nor know anyone really with any class, so Dinner Party is off the table, so to speak.
I have been to and given dinner party's. The last one at my house was a Toga theme party. I searched the web and used this site for my ideas: http://www.party-oz.com.au/idea-toga-party-tie-toga-throw-toga-parties-ideas.php. It was great fun and the food was yummy.
Blue Collar/White Collar is an archaic and absurd way to slap an inapplicable title onto someone, these days. I know plenty of people that would fall into the 'White Collar' stereotype if people were to judge them ignorantly (which is what happens most of the time with a title like blue collar/white collar) - but are pretty simple people when it comes to how they spend their time - perhaps in a manner that could be considered very 'blue collar'. I've seen the opposite just as many times happen, too.
Dinner Parties get a bad reputation from the Victorian Era, when they became a social cornerstone of that time, but Dinner Parties aren't something that can't transcend socio-economic levels (which have blurred a lot more since that time). While they are something that requires an investment - dinner parties can be something that could be even comparable to a Super Bowl party, for example.

I never throw dinner party's. It seems for the upper class and old people to me.
If I'd throw a normal themed party though, I think I'd go for a hair/glam metal theme. Most of my friends love the music and the outfits are incredibly wrong and hilarious.

I'd rather host a BBQ than a dinner party for the simple reason that as host you can be with your guests more and not worry about what's going on in the kitchen.

Before my sister got married, her single friends threw an Anti-Valentine dinner party and everyone had to write something ugly about their EX on a black heart and tape it to one wall. It sounded fun and made me wish I was single that night to attend it. However, only singles were invited.

The topic is Dinner Parties, Nebulous. Dinner Parties, to me, are a party like any other that you may want, but you serve a meal, however you will have it, in addition. Thus, I think a BBQ can qualify as a dinner party - no, it's not by Victorian standards, but I think it falls into the realm of a modern twenty-first century dinner party.
