Do you think Hogwarts Legacy will end up being Game of the Year 2023?

Hogwarts Legacy has been out for many of us now for a few months but those of us on older consoles are now having to wait until May before we can get our hands on it and play the game.

From what I am hearing though, the game seems to have been received well by many and it has had great reviews since its release. It got me thinking though, will be see Hogwarts Legacy as Game of the Year 2023?

What are your thoughts?

Sadly it probably will.

I think it has a good chance, from what I've heard and seen, its a pretty decent game.

The only thing it has against it is time, and being a single-player only game. The player count has crashed since the opening weeks. This means if another great storyline game comes out closer to the end of the year, it could easily be upseated as 'the best single player game' of the year.

It'll likely be game of the year; shouldn't be given all the controversy over JK Rowling but....

It's ultimately not the game's fault it's mastermind is a hateful bigoted person. It's ok, it'll go on to do exactly what it's been doing, those of us not meant for that world will continue on without it.

I still think the likes of:
Spiderman 2
Starfield?
Final Fantasy 16?
Even something like the new Legend of Zelda game has as good a chance if not better chance with a late 2023 release of getting game of the year.

It's a solid game, but I think it may have already been beaten by Resident Evil 4 (imo). There are some issues with Hogswarts Legacy such as minor bugs, repetitive collectibles, power creep, and some disappointments like the removal of the ability to travel with your classmates. The castle itself is pretty detailed but some parts of the world map can be pretty bland. I've heard others complain about the storyline, but it seems fine to me.

It's not the game for me. I prefer RPG's like Fallout or Elder Scrolls.

I figured you were more of a Halo or Mass Effect type...

I never got into those franchises. I got hooked on Fallout 3 when I was introduced to it. I'd have to say that I really enjoyed Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4. I'm wanting to get my hands on Fallout 76.

It might be nominated but there's a lot of competition and potential contenders for GotY this year, including:
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Octopath Traveler II
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
- Final Fantasy XVI
- Lies of P
- Starfield

All but two of the games in that list aren't out yet but have a potential to be strong hitters, so it's hard to judge accurately how HL stacks against them but considering how acclaimed BotW was, I won't be surprised to see TotK sweeping up a lot of awards this year if it improves on everything that was established with BotW.

Honestly, the RE4 remake is the most perfect game this year so far. Better than Jedi Survivor and Hogwarts Legacy, in my opinion. I'm really enjoying Jedi Survivor though.
