Does forum size matter?

lol In other words, do you only contribute to successful forums with a lot of posts/topics, or does forum size not matter?

I think it surely contributes. But I'd settle for a close 200 group forum, rather then a 1 Million group forum with nothing better to say or add value to the site.

I do tend to look at the Who has logged in in the past 24 (or 48) hours section and the Last-Reply dates in each forum to see if people have actually been on the forum. If I see more than a couple people there or recent replies in some of the forums, then I will probably join if the forum looks promising.

The size of the forum doesn't matter to me. I lurk and read topics, replies and check the acitvity level before joining any forum.

Sadly, to most people I think it does. I myself wouldn't be active at a forum with less than 10,000 posts, and a forum which wouldn't benefit me in any way. Thats not to say I wouldn't register

Size of a forum is meaningless without looking at its date of creation, average daily posts, etc.

If the posts are more than a year old, then that would probably stop me from joining, as in my eyes, if all the posts on a forum were a year old or more, and no one was on, or if it were only bots on, in my eyes that's what I would call a dead forum, or else people have just abandoned it over time. However, even if the posts are only 2 days old, then it doesn't matter to me, as it shows that the administrator is at least trying to get something on to his forum, so I'll gladly help out.

I really dont care as long as the forum is nice and something I enjoy posting on.

I'm a fan of quality over quantity. That being said, sometimes it takes a certain threshold of quantity to reach an acceptable quality.

I can't look at the title of this thread without giggling

To me it doesn't matter really. The smaller the forum, the more close knit the community it, but the bigger it is then the more interesting people there are. They're both just as good as the other, really.

Why is that? What are you thinking of?

I saw the title and it reminded me of a song I used to listen to. I can't remember who sings it or anything.

I look and see when the last post was made if it was made say 6 months ago and no one has been on in a while i don`t join

i think the post count should not matter as it might be a new forum just getting off the ground

but say its a year old and has less than 5000 posts then some thing it wrong with it

Isn't there a country song with the words Size Matters in the chorus line or something?
