How was your first time driving? Were you nervous? Did you do good? Where did you drive?

First time I ever drove a car was in my neighborhood. Drove around neighborhoods for about a month, then I hit the real road. It wasn't a busy road or anything, but it did have traffic. After driving short distances for a while, I've started driving to my grandparents' house, and they live about an hour away. The roads are narrow and have a lot of sharp curves. That's probably the only time I've ever been sort of nervous while driving. I had to go fast because I had cars behind me, but I wasn't used to the roads. Anyhow, I did good considering I had little to no experience with numerous sharp curves. Only went off the road a little once.

My dad used to put me on his lap and let me drive his car (out in the country) when I was like 6 years old. I thought it was fun.

When I was actually learning how to drive, I only had my mom's manual / stick shift car to drive. Which made learning how to drive 100 times harder than learning in an automatic. I got the hang of it after a while though. I remember my 1st time on the freeway was VERY scary.

My dad had a 1972 Plymouth 'Cuda Hemi just like the one in the link only it was black. It was manual drive and a very fast car. He took me to an empty parking lot about 20 minutes away from home. To get to the parking lot we were on a major busy road. He showed me for about 30 minutes how to work the clutch, gas pedal, shift and brake. A car pulled into the lot and I recognized it as my neighbors car. My dad got out of the car and told me if I could drive it home in one piece, I could have the car. He drove off with the neighbor. I was scared half to death but wanted this car as mine. I kept popping the clutch and stalling out in the parking lot and putting my foot on the brake pedal instead of the gas. Took me what seemed a lifetime to get the hang of it. I pulled out of the parking lot and drove the car home. Little did I know that my dad and the neighbor were watching me the whole time. They even followed me home and I didn't even know they were behind me. The next day, my dad signed over the title and registration to me!
