No, but I haven't been on many forums and started going on them when I was 22 or so.

I think once maybe. For a silly reason though. I just gave them tips on how to do things with their forum (like adding mycode and some other coding stuff) because they weren't too experienced. I'm not really sure if I was actually banned or if they restarted the site or something

Nope.Never been banned...But my alt account did ;_;

During my super-goth phase I was on a site called Hell's Keep. There was some drama I forget the details of, and I wound up telling the admin exactly what I thought of him. He resorted to childish post-editing to make himself look cool and show off how he was the big man on campus. Then he banned me.

I guessed his password (what kind of Satanist actually uses "satanism" as a password?) and gutted the forum.

Another time, I got banned because somebody hacked the forum, and while they were doing it I was in the shoutbox/some threads talking about how fucking stupid the hacker was, that he could only hack the main page of the site, and not any of the sections.

Very interesting. I've had my fair share of getting banned from places. Although as much as I wanted to get back at the admin for banning me. I've never hacked a forum. So I just moved to a better forum where there is a fresh start.

I've been banned on the same forum 6 times. I think they finally had enough of me, haha.

No,they un-banned Ken.

I think I got banned for being connected to a VPN while browsing a forum.

All the ban reason said was:

You have been banned from this forum.
For the reason : Behaving Underhandedly & dishonourably

All I can think is they noticed my IP, researched it and saw things other people did while posting from that same (VPN/proxy) shared IP address.
...it wasn't me, whatever it was. :dontknow:

People should ban based on the specific actions committed ON their forum, not what a google search of an IP address might reveal.

I've had the same problem before.

I've been accused of being a member of some user name that I wasn't that apparently was logged in the forum for using that same IP.

Even though I was using a VPN.  :nope:

Whenever I research an IP and it comes up as a server, shared network device, proxy, etc  ...and NOT a home ISP, I figure the member is connected to a VPN or a proxy for privacy reasons and I can respect that.  I might watch the member a little closer to see if they are a malicious person or not but IP address alone isn't enough for me to make that determination.

Yeah, I've been banned before once. I kinda did it on purpose though. I didn't like the staff, as they sucked at doing their job, were not nice at all (flamed users a lot), and were extremely strict on the stupidest things. I decided that I'd had enough and spammed the link to my forum until I got IP Banned.

Has anyone here ever been banned from a forum in the past?

No, never. At least I don't think so. For all I know, the administration of those forums I've been a member on until I left could've ban (or even delete) my accounts after my departure, but since I don't go back to check on them, I simply don't know. :)

One of the forums I left has a strict 'no account deletion' policy which they stubbornly stick to, despite having lots of members asking for their accounts to be deleted, usually members with a single digit post count who never got into the forum life, but registered anyway for some reason.

Personally, I don't see the problem, but the administration there always justified their stance by turning the table on the members themselves and accusing them of trying to hide something because, apparently, if you ask for your account to be deleted, you must've done something wrong and are trying to destroy the evidence of your wrongdoing. Mmmkay...

Another explanation I've heard is that some day those people might change their minds and become active members, so it would be nice for them to have an account to come back to. Okay, sounds good in theory, but from what I've noticed, most people simply create a new account after being absent for a prolonged period of time, usually a few years, since they either forget their passwords or that they even had an account, which again makes the reasoning for not deleting accounts moot.

Yeah. One or two. They were small forums though where everyone knew each other.
