As I have told you in my Interview thread, I am a janitor at our local Select Inn. Also, it is that time of the year when the Pipeliners start flooding both hotels in my area. One of my job coaches is starting to think that we are being taken advantage of in the housekeeping business, because we go into these pipeliners' rooms to move their stuff off their beds so we could make them, and they turn around and complain to our boss, who then turns around and reports to us what they have been saying. I mean, why do you think they have the Please Do Not Disturb signs on the doors? I have seen customers use these only when they are actually in their rooms, but people don't seem to realize that those signs don't just have to be used when they are in the rooms. If they do not want us workers going in their rooms, all they have to do is just hang their Do Not Disturb sign on the outer handle door, and we will gladly not go into their rooms while they are away. Now you might be thinking, well, if you're trying to help these people, how can your job coach think you guys are being taken advantage of? And I used to wonder this too, but now I know exactly how: We're trying to help them by making their beds and cleaning their rooms and what not, and all they're doing in return is complaining because we moved one or two things off their beds so we can make their beds.. Morale of this story: Take advantage of your Do Not Disturb signs during housekeeping hours. They don't have to be used when you are not in your room. They can be used while you're away as well, then that way the housekeepers will know not to enter your room at all. That's probably the biggest thing I hate about doing stay-overs right now. *Sigh*.
Anyway, have you ever been taken advantage of at your job, or has your job-coach/supervisor ever felt that you have been taken advantage of as an employee? Share your stories here.
