Democracy Now: The Facebook Papers - Docs Reveal Tech Giant’s Complicity in Hate, Lies & Violence Around the World
Thousands of internal Facebook documents leaked to media outlets continue to produce damning revelations about how the social media giant has prioritized its profits over user safety. The Facebook Papers have provided fresh evidence of how the company has let serious problems fester on its platform, including hate, misinformation, and human trafficking, and failed to invest in moderation outside English-speaking countries. The former Facebook product manager who shared the documents, Frances Haugen, is pressing lawmakers to more tightly regulate the company’s activities and testified Monday before the British Parliament ahead of scheduled meetings with officials in France, Germany and the European Union. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the leaked documents paint a “false picture” based on cherry-picked evidence, but we speak with UCLA information studies professor Ramesh Srinivasan, who says they confirm what many critics have warned about for years. “This new form of digital capitalism that I believe Facebook is trailblazing is one that is playing with our intimate emotions on every single level.”

Facebook isn't even the most popular social media platform anymore.
No, its' only one of the two most powerful (the other being a certain Birdsite....).

Facebook seems to be losing some of its steam. It's still the only "everything app" in its niche, but more and more users are spending time on other platforms. I deactivated my account because it felt like it was losings its friends-focus and just feels much more alienating than it did in its earlier days.

I think social media has many positives on society, but if it isn't run right, it has plenty of negatives as well. I don't really trust Facebook anymore, and there are a lot of other users who are starting to agree.

I still have friends on FB I talk to since I joined 14 years ago.

Do you know them IRL or just on there?
Some of them I knew during my days as a longtime customer at Aladdin's Castle, but not anymore, and most of them from the site alone.

I just deleted the app on my phone (and the messenger app) because I kept getting locked out of my account for my "suspicious activities" (not really sure what the hell I've done) and I was just getting really tired of it. I don't care about it anymore.

Years ago, they banned me for "not having enough pictures on my account" - They thought I was a bot because I was inactive.

I was like... huh?

I Deleted my Facebook accounts in 2020. Everytime I post stuffs Facebook removes it, I try to share links to my friends FB won't let me sent it, and everytime when I try to stay in touch with old friends no responds. FB removes a lot of good games off, and peoples posts stupid stuffs. That's why I left Facebook. I try to talk to my close friends to leave Facebook but they are too hook onto it)

I should had Deleted my Facebook account back in 2010 before It got this bad.

MySpace was better long time ago , You can customize , add music to your profile and stay in touch with your friends. Until new owners changed the designed my MySpace , lost Photos , music and can't customize.

I mostly use Clone sites of MySpace (SpaceHey (2020) and there's another one coming this month called NewSpace)

Yeah it was more fun back in the day. You could totally customize your profile, have it play a song, set your top 8 friends, etc.
