The fatal shooting of an unarmed black 19-year-old by a white police officer, who authorities say fired after he was assaulted, prompted protesters Saturday to take to the college town's streets with chants of "Black Lives Matter." The city's police chief said he understood the anger, assuring demonstrators his department would defend their rights as he implored the community to act with restraint.

Tony Robinson died Friday night after being shot in his apartment following a confrontation with Officer Matt Kenny, who had forced his way inside after hearing a disturbance while responding to a call, authorities and neighbors said.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said Kenny was injured, but didn't provide details. It wasn't clear whether Robinson, who died at a hospital, was alone.

"He was unarmed. That's going to make this all the more complicated for the investigators, for the public to accept," Koval said of Robinson. The department said Kenny would not have been wearing a body camera.

Several dozen protesters who gathered outside the police department Saturday afternoon held signs and chanted "Black Lives Matter" — a slogan adopted by activists and protesters nationwide after recent officer-involved deaths of unarmed blacks — before walking toward the neighborhood where the shooting took place.

Chief Koval said police responded to a call about 6:30 p.m. Friday of a person jumping into traffic. A second call to police said the man was "responsible for a battery," Koval said.

Kenny went to an apartment and forced his way inside after hearing a disturbance. Koval said the officer fired after being assaulted by Robinson; Koval said he couldn't say how many shots were fired because it is part of the investigation.

One of Robinson's neighbors, Grant Zimmerman, said Robinson would run between his apartment and his roommate's mother's house across the street "all the time, even in the middle of traffic."

Wisconsin's online courts database shows that Robinson, a 2014 graduate of Sun Prairie High School, pleaded guilty to felony armed robbery in October and was sentenced in December to three years' probation. A police report said he was among four teenagers arrested in a home invasion in which the suspects were seen entering an apartment building with a long gun. They ran with electronics and other property and three of the four were captured. A shotgun and a "facsimile" handgun were recovered, according to the report.

Thoughts? Well...once again, the lamestream media has fallen for the myth of a white police officer shooting an unarmed black teenager...quoting Legal Insurrection:
Tony-Robinson-featured-593x442.jpg

Stop me if you’ve heard seen this one before: the now tiresome and wholly predictable cycle of news coverage when a white police officer shoots and kills an unarmed black teenager:

Step 1: Build the false narrative. Mainstream media outlets report that a police officer has shot an unarmed black teenager, and provide extensive coverage of the victim’s grieving family alongside flattering photographs and background stories of said teenager. The event is followed within hours–hours!–by well-organized protests, family spokespersons, and (naturally) lawyers (these last two typically combined).

Step 2: Watch the false narrative implode. These mainstream media reports are inevitably followed by factually correct and comprehensive reports of the victim’s violent and criminal background and actions at the time of the shooting. These facts place responsibility for his death squarely on the victim’s own shoulders, and make it clear that the police acted appropriately.

Sounds familiar, right? In case you’ve not yet had enough of that cycle, allow me to introduce you to the late Tony Robinson, the “unarmed black teenager” who was shot and killed by a veteran Wisconsin police officer this past Friday evening (so, not even 48 hours prior to the writing of this post).

Just read the article in full with a straight face and then say the officer in question was at fault...

Let's bring up a person's past and then pin it on them again in their own home, 'cause they must've been robbing or beating or doing SOMETHING illegal since they've been through the system once before.

Faallen for the myth, Webster? What, the myth that keeps repeating itself?

Maybe look up myth in the dictionary...

Why is this news? If you assault a police officer, he has a right to defend himself. But news agencies are headlining this as white cop kills unarmed black man. The fact that the person who was shot assaulted the cop first should be the lead in if they are going to run the story. Skin color has nothing to do with it. Parents not teaching respect is the issue here. So sick of this kind of reporting and news agencies inciting the public to outrage to boost ratings. It only leads to more violence and racial tension.

Which myth, Identity? The "Hands Up, Don't Shoot" myth?
The only two people who know exactly what happened in Madison are Ofc. Kenny and Mr. Robinson and given Robinson's background, I'm not inclined to take up his side of the story...or, we could wait for all the facts to come out and then make a judgment call at that point.

So you admit that the only two people who knows what happened in that house are the deceased and the cop, and yet you proceed to make assumptions about a young man's character who you don't know, and never had the chance of meeting based on facts the media has subjectively provided based on a young man's criminal history.

Cool.

I am sure he was sweet and innocent as freshly fallen snow even after he attacked and bashed the cop across the head while trying to take his gun. Just another gentle giant who did nothing wrong.

well, the cop forced his way into the house, because of [enter something here] and then shot a kid because of [enter something here]...

sounds legit...

cops getting away with murder everyday...

the cop broke the law by entering the apartment...

thus breaking the law by shooting at and killing the person...

how is that difficult? :|

it doesn't matter, i can call the police and tell them that my neighbor just killed someone, doesn't make it legal for the cop to force their way in, it doesn't matter if there's a "disturbance"...

and i'm not sure i'm getting all the facts but if the cops break in my place i'll be pissed too...

just because a call was made for a address doesn't give the cops the right to break into that address...
