Favourite Forum Software

What is your favorite forum software? It can be anything! I think mine is either mybb or phpbb :P

RE: Favourite Forum Software

MyBB

RE: Favourite Forum Software

xenForo. Got to love alerts >.<

RE: Favourite Forum Software

SMF here. QX Community had that software.

RE: Favourite Forum Software

It's a tie between MyBB and phpBB. From a member's standpoint I like Xenforo because of the member alerts.

If I ever were to run a forum again (which is highly unlikely) I think I'd go with MyBB because I have used it as an administrator before and I liked it for its ease of use. Permissions were easy and straight forward (unlike that of phpBB) and I just loved the experience overall.

Yeah, I ran phpBB boards in the past (FA) and MyBB is far less complicated and gives less headaches to administrator. :P

phpBB is by far the worst in terms of permissions. I remember getting one headache after another trying to figure out how to ban someone if a ban was necessary, how to promote or demote someone from a position...etc. It was a major league headache to say the least. MyBB permissions are loads easier. At least you can have specific permissions like banned members aren't allowed to view certain forums, or even the whole forum... etc. MyBB would really be my first choice.

RE: Favourite Forum Software

Ipboard & Mybb.

RE: Favourite Forum Software

It used to be vBulletin, but xenForo is where it's at now.

Haha agreed. It took me forever just to figure out how to copy permissions on creating a new board, and if you did it wrong, it was a real pain to fix. I'm glad I'm not using phpbb anymore. I like the software, but MAN were those permission setups a pain. :P

RE: Favourite Forum Software

MyBB, ZetaBoards, and VBulletin. ZetaBoard, despite being a free host, is amazing!

For free i would choose MyBB, paid i would choose ipb or burning board

Haven't used burning board that much. Appears to be cheaper than IPB and XF though.

It reminds me of Xenforo because of its design :)

  • IPB
  • MyBB

I can't really decide between the two, they have both cons and pros to them.

The unborn MyBB 2 sounds promising.

Erm, MyBB 2? What's supposed to be different about it compared to the original? Is it going to be as advanced as Xenforo or Vbulletin is or how will it work? Sounds like something I might have to do a test forum on when it's out to see what it does.l

They claim they're going to do a complete rewrite: throw it all out and start from scratch. MyBB is pretty old already, so it'll be interesting to see what they'll come up with.
