favorite quotes?

This one comes to mind: "Reach heaven by violence then." I think the idea of apotheosis through deicide is interesting.
It's also kinda funny because the person addressed proceeds to grab an axe, "move on" to a moon and beat up moon ghosts.

Right now you're probably wondering what sort of trippy thing I got this from...
It's from The 36 Lessons of Vivec, Sermon 16, which is an in-game religious text written by a god for the player to find. In some ways it's a guide to apotheosis, but it's also a history that never happened yet is true all the same. Mostly it's just an interesting read.

My favorite quote is the one in my signature written by William Edward Burghardt Du Bois:
Herein lies the tragedy of the age:
Not that men are poor, - all men know something of poverty.
Not that men are wicked, - who is good?
Not that men are ignorant, - what is truth?
Nay, but that men know so little of men.
W.E.B. Du Bois is one of my biggest inspirations, an accomplished scholar, activist, and writer. I read the quote in one of the American history books I rented. The quote just stuck with me because it speaks to a lot of things - racial inequality, economic inequality, and lack of understanding for humanity.

Another favorite of quote of mine is by Henry David Thoreau, another author I admire:
Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.
I like his use of metaphors in the quote. It's not always the goal [fish] that is most rewarding but the process [fishing]. And what he is saying is that many people go through their whole life trying to capture a singular goal without appreciating the grander picture - there are always fish in the sea but each fishing experience is different.

That's pretty epic.
