Presentation Speech

(View spoiler to see speech)

[spoiler:2zt0rlee]• Law enforcement is a dangerous career field to go in to, but it can be one of the most rewarding.

- Anyone with a clean record and a high school diploma is qualified to participate in law enforcement.

- If you are considering become a regular police officer, the job opportunities out there are numerous.

- Without police, there would be chaos, therefore, there will always be a need for the job. That means you will have security in your job, and will rarely ever have to worry about layoffs, and even if you were laid off, several other job opportunities in law enforcement still exist.

• On average, regular police officers earn between 35,000 to 50,000 a year.

• Detectives and investigators earn up to 50,000 to 60,000 a year.

- The pay is decent, but some benefits of joining the force is that you receive paid vacation, sick leave, and medical and life insurance, in addition, you also can expect a retirement with earnings up to half of what your income used to be after 25 to 30 years of service.

• To begin, law enforcement is not for everyone. Beyond the solid requirements, it takes a strong, focused person to do the job. Dealing with the public and working with all types of people can take a toll on you, mentally and physically. You should have a desire to do the job, not just because it sounds good or you need a job. In any branch of law enforcement, you see all kinds of unbelievable things you never though you’d see in your life. Law enforcement officers have to deal with all types of people and situations, and are expected to overcome any obstacles standing in their path.

- Regular duties consist of normal patrols and responding to service calls for all officers.

• Most police officers specialize in a particular field. After your probation period, which ranges from 6 months to 3 years, you may be eligible to become a detective or work on special operations.

- Detectives: Plainclothes officers investigate crime scenes and try to put the missing pieces together to solve a crime or other incident.

- FBI: Detectives that work for the government that conduct national security investigations. FBI agents deal with organized crime, kidnapping, terrorism, other related crimes.

- Special weapons and tactics (SWAT): Emergency response team that performs high-risk operations that regular officers are not able to do.

- Military Police: Police officers in the military, but only enforce laws in a military realm.

* Overall, the outlook for the job is excellent for individuals who have a heart to help others. The opportunities in law enforcement range greatly. You have regular police officers who you see in cop cars patrolling the area and responding to service calls, but you also have various officers performing other tasks to make sure everyone is safe and out of harms way.

** In almost every area law enforcement, employment is expected to rise over the next decade.

- Along with the pay, the risks, and dangers of law enforcement, comes fulfillment knowing you served your community.

Once again, law enforcement is not for everyone, and it should be a well thought out decision that you are sure of, because it takes a special someone to do a special something, and that is to serve and protect.[/spoiler:2zt0rlee]
