I joined another forum the other day. As soon as I posted my introduction, I received three friendship requests. I found this very strange as I don't know these people and vice versa.

Have some questions for the rest of you:

1) Has this ever happened to you too?

2) Do you accept friendship requests? If so, what makes you decide to accept them?

3) Are you the type that doesn't accept any friendship requests? If so, why?

I don't particularly care as it's a forum and it doesn't give them access to any personal information. I'd accept them, if it makes them happy to have me on their friends list, then so be it...

O.o

You must radiate friendship, Jazzy.

Hasn't happened to me.

I generally accept, why not? Does no one any harm.

the only time that has happened to me is when it turned out that the person was on another forum as me as well, but they were using a different name so I did no recognize them. I tend to use my same user name, I am not sure if that is a good idea or not, but I do.

I don't really see the point in having the friendship feature on websites in general, I never found for it to make communication any easier. If I wanted to talk to an acquaintance, I could just as easily put in their profile and send them a personal message, the only thing that really comes from it is a little badge that symbolizes your friendship and who needs that?

i think people just like to 'have more friends than the next'........another variation of being a post whore........but it dosnt do any harm but i dont bother generally unless it is someone i have known a long time

I think it's one of those features that is abused on some sites.

I had a blog, well still have it actually but not been there for a while,

anyway, they had a friends feature and so many people added you

as a friend, even though they had no intention of ever visiting your

blog or having any contact with you. It was purely to make themselves

look super popular to everyone who visited 'their' blog.

This kind of put me off any friends features I've seen on other sites.

I'm not really sure what the purpose of it is on a forum either.

I aso think it can be a bit awkward. I always accepted any friends

requests at my blog because I didn't want to appear 'unfriendly'

or 'stuck up' and I would probably do the same here. But to be

honest, I don't feel the need to go in for popularity contests or

pick out certain members from a forum that I like more than others.

I can show my friendship to other members on the forums, I don't

need a person's avatar in my profile, or my avatar in their profile

in order to be friends with them.

I guess my rule is - I'll be friends with any/everyone, unless or until I'm

given a reason not to be.

I don't see the point in this feature either to be honest. I, however, never refuse a request. I don't accept these request to look more popular than other members. If it makes a member happy to have my avatar on their profile page then so be it.

Pretty much what I think of this feature.
