A sanitation worker in an Atlanta suburb has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for working too early.

Kevin McGill had been working for only a few months for a company contracted to do sanitation work in Sandy Springs when he was cited for picking up trash just after 5 a.m. one morning, according to WSB-TV.

That violated a city ordinance which limits trash pickup to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The statute is in place because residents have complained that early pick-up disrupts their sleep.

When McGill showed up to court to answer the citation, Sandy Springs prosecutor Bill Riley sought the maximum punishment against him — 30 days in jail.

And in a trashy move, a judge granted Riley the request.

Well, that stinks!

Your thoughts?

Seems about right. A leftist city that loves to punish the workers and reward the lazy.

I'm not entirely sure that not wanting to be woken at 5AM constitutes being lazy.

Seems a bit overkill to me, but who am I to say anything? A simple slap on the wrist and making sure he doesn't go out too early would've been good enough.

I don't believe it.

Atlanta has room in their lockup for somebody for thirty days who did something GOOD for the city?

Amazing.

But... after further review....

"Suspended Sentence"

@DrLeftover: Thank you for the link you provided. I read this part from the article and glad they came to their senses:
After his story gained national attention, the city of Sandy Springs suspended his sentence, posting the following statement.

"There are times when taking a step back provides the opportunity for better perspective. In retrospect, the actions of the court with regards to Mr. McGill’s sentence for violating the city’s noise laws, was disproportionate to a first-time offense. As such, the court has amended its sentence to time served and further probation suspended.

I second this. Just a bunch of people making a fuss over nothing.

I bet that this did not happen in some low to middle class area, way to posh for that.
All the 'sanitation men' should all go on strike nationwide till he is released

can i call the cops and lock up the train conductors/engineers for rolling by blasting their horns all night long?
