Global Warming Update

We'll be screwed either way. We run out of oil or we freeze to death. (The ultimate end of global warming.) But the oilmen will die rich, so who cares?

That's the spirit!

But asking you is easier, keeps the conversation going and gives other people the chance to see what I see.

Oh right, that... Well, I guess we won't get proper data till we've been through it properly and have measurements from hibernation and non-hibernation.

Science is never settled, anyone who believes it is, is merely trying to fool themselves.

Still... you can get much more done by saying something's settled.

Anthropogenic global warming is a myth.

These things called ice ages have been happening since way before we started emitting that terrible carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere. There are glacial and interglacial periods that last a few thousand years, and they have a direct relationship with temperature. Glacial period = lower temperatures. Interglacial period = higher temperatures. Guess which one we're in now.

Of course, that's one possible explanation. Even if we only have that one piece of scientific reasoning and evidence, we still have one more piece of evidence than the greenies.

All I know is that the weather is surely chainging and its not for the good

Subject: I resign from APS

Dear Ms. Kirby

Thank you for your letter inquiring about my membership. I did not renew it because I can not live with the statement below:

Emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities are changing the atmosphere in ways that affect the Earth's climate. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide as well as methane, nitrous oxide and other gases. They are emitted from fossil fuel combustion and a range of industrial and agricultural processes.

The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring.

If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth's physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.

In the APS it is ok to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible? The claim (how can you measure the average temperature of the whole earth for a whole year?) is that the temperature has changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which (if true) means to me is that the temperature has been amazingly stable, and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this 'warming' period.

Best regards,

Ivar Giaever

It's not from those haters at Fox, we all know about them....

(Reuters) - The Times Atlas of the World exaggerated the rate of Greenland's ice loss in its thirteenth edition last week, scientists said on Monday.

The atlas, published by HarperCollins, showed that Greenland lost 15 percent of its ice cover over the past 12 years, based on information from the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado in the United States.

The Greenland ice sheet is the second biggest in the world and significant shrinking could lead to a global rise in sea levels.
