Gmail and Google Calendar have been given redesigns as part of a ââ¬Åseries of interface updatesââ¬Â, Google has confirmed.
Gmailââ¬â¢s new theme, known as ââ¬ËPreviewââ¬â¢ at the moment, is designed to ââ¬Åstrip out unnecessary clutter and make Gmail as beautiful as it is powerfulââ¬Â, according to Jason Cornwell, a user experience designer at Google.
The theme simplifies Gmailââ¬â¢s design, making the colour scheme largely black and white with touches of red and blue. Users can try out the new theme by going to Settings in Gmail, then choosing Themes and selecting the ââ¬ËPreviewââ¬â¢ theme.
Google Calendar gets a similar look which will be rolled out to users over the next few days.
The changes are part of an effort across Google to improve the interface on its products. Early last week Google updated its homepage design, shrinking the logo, moving links to the edge of the screen and adding a black menu bar across the top.
The design tweaks are the latest updates in a busy week for Google. Last Tuesday evening the company launched Google+, its new social networking platform. While access to the service is currently limited, initial responses have been positive, with testers comparing the look and feel to Facebook.
