Gun-shaped iPhone case bothers Orlando police

It may look like a gun, but it is actually a cell phone case to fit iPhones.
It may not be a lethal weapon, but this cell phone case could have lethal consequences. It is creating quite a stir among law enforcement officials throughout the country.
“It’s definitely not funny,” said Sgt. Wanda Ford of the Orlando Police Department.
While most cases are designed to protect phones, this case is advertised as a way to transform your iPhone into a handgun. This Gun Grip Case, sold on websites like Amazon and eBay, is outfitted with a pistol grip, a trigger, and the screen shows a picture of a gun barrel.
“You’re putting everyone in danger when you have something that resembles a gun and if you decide to point that at an officer or anyone,” Ford said.
The Orlando Police Department said they are worried young people may be drawn to the cell phone case and its variety of colors.
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence issued a statement, saying in part:
“This is just the latest attempt to make money off those who fetishize firearms in our country.”
“You have to remember that when an officer sees something that is similar to a gun, he is going to act on that,” Ford said.
OPD is warning the public to not purchase this product.
The gun grip cell phone cases were not manufactured by Apple, and have now been removed from Amazon’s marketplace.
