Guns

UK news:- The murder of Chris Kaba caused the firearms officer to be blamed for having given an autistic person a gun. This led to many police officers involved in the counter-terrorism efforts to hand in their guns en masse last week, but some resumed their jobs as usual on Monday claiming this was “after a think”. Therefore the military are no longer needed as there’s said to be adequate police officers countering terrorism.

For obvious reasons, police officers are not entitled to strike action. It is debatable whether or not this was intended as industrial action in disguise, or police officers were sincere in their motives or questioning the morality of holding guns and whether or not the law is on their sides. Some officers have left due to questioning the value of their jobs balanced against the risk that they may get caught up in legal proceedings, even if they comply with all their training and instructions.

…I think It’s very easy to be antI gun if where you are in the world doesn’t have a gun culture as it were and in the U.K. we don’t so we have very little gun/armed weapon crimes…but we do have knife crime …but for those who do live in a part of the world where owning a lifestyle choice or a defence choice, I do understand their decision of feeling of wanting to be able to defend their family or their own lives so that really isn’t something that I want to judge….for me personally, though…?…I could never ever imagine pulling a trigger and ending a life of anyone, no matter what the threat….

Shooting in a hospital in the Netherlands. Looks like it’s not just in the US !

How sad :(

Well, in Sweden’s crackdown of gang crime, I’m glad to be able to say that they’re considering harsher penalties for breaking gun laws.

1. I know people who own guns who I consider unstable - it scares me.
2. I know people who want a gun for protection, but I fear could have used a gun to commit suicide - it scares me much worse.
3. Personally I don't know how I would know when to pull the trigger - I don't think it is often as cut and dried as you want to believe it would be
4. The legal ramifications of killing someone - even if it is found to be justified - would probably bankrupt me.
5. The good guy with the gun is indistinguishable from the bad guy with the gun in a public setting. (Unless you are black in which case you are considered the bad guy regardless)

I have this insane desire to test the limits of "stand your ground" by just shooting anyone who is carrying a gun - "I was afraid he would shoot me so I killed him. He looked threatening"

Everyone should be able to have a gun of they want them because I don't agree that the bad guys(the governments) should be able to use guns against us but we can't use guns against them...

I grew up around guns, I learned how to properly handle, clean, and shoot them when I was 12. So I know guns are dangerous. When I was married my ex-wife had suicidal tendencies so I had to get rid of my guns. Would I get them back? Yes, because I enjoy going to the range and shooting. not because I am going to kill someone. I have never had to use them in self-defense. but if I had to protect myself or my family I would.

I'm not a huge fan of guns. A lot of people already knows I don't really like them around me.

Would you shoot to kill or just to disable them?
It would depend on the threat situation, If I or a family member is in trouble and they don't have a weapon disable. If they had a weapon then I would still try to disable but if I had no other choice, I would kill some states have strict laws on what self-defense is. Here in North Carolina, I think they have to be actively attacking you. I would have to look it up.

But you wouldn’t have time to look it up *while* you are attacked :P

Any time you kill an intruder in self defense, court is mandated. You would have to hire an attorney anyway to argue your case with the prosecution. The court has to debate on whether it was self defense or if it was murder.

Guns for self defence is laughable. If someone's going to kill you they don't give you any warning so unless you're always holding that gun in your hand you're dead. There aren't a lot of news stories where someone having a gun stopped a crime. and of course someone probably did a meaningless study on it.

That’s the thing and why it’s so often based on gut instinct whereby racial biases naturally come into play 😡

Man charged with murder in road rage shooting that killed a 4-year-old boy as he sat in the back of his family’s car

A man has been charged with murder in the killing of a 4-year-old boy who was shot during a suspected road rage incident while sitting in the back seat of his family’s car in Lancaster, California, last week, authorities said.

The suspect, 29-year-old Byron Burkhart, also faces two counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting at an occupied vehicle and five counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the criminal complaint obtained by CNN.

Burkhart was traveling with his girlfriend on December 15 when he allegedly cut off a vehicle carrying the boy and his parents, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday in a news release.

Burkhart allegedly “engaged in aggressive driving maneuvers and road rage” before pulling up next to the family’s car and firing eight shots into the vehicle, hitting the child, the district attorney’s office said.

The boy was struck once and taken to a hospital, where he later died, authorities said. His parents were not injured in the shooting.

The child was identified as Gor Adamyan by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office.

Gor was a vibrant boy with “a bright spirit,” a GoFundMe page set up for his family said.

The family was on their way to buy groceries when the shooting happened, according to the fundraiser.

I'm completely anti-gun. I've looked at statistics, and places like the UK (where guns are illegal) and South Korea, have almost no gun crime, and no mass shootings. Think about it.

There's a mass shooting in the US every other week, but no one cares because of the grotesquely outdated "right to bear arms" bullshit. 400 years ago, there weren't little kids being massacred. Or 30 high school students murdered by assault rifles. It's time to fucking change the laws. I'm sick of gun violence. Guns do nothing to help our society.
I believe it's a morality crisis more than anything. How do you explain there was less gun violence 50 years ago when there were no background checks or restrictions. You could just walk into a store and out with a gun.

I do wonder what people who want to ban guns from citizens think about governments having guns. If citizens are banned from guns, why should governments get to keep them? They are run by people who are the same as those who would be banned and grants government a monopoly on violence.

I've been thinking..

Let's say that we did steer into the skid on this, and the gun nuts were ToTaLlY rIgHt that the gov't did want to take their guns, and were coming to collect them..

Do they really think that their collection of guns and ammo will stop them?

I mean we spend more money on defense even though it has been said that we haven't been in a defensive war since WW2.. so we've basically been invading other countries for resources that we don't want to pay for..

I say this because we have the ability to merc someone with the click of a button.. and without soldiers being involved. And technology only gets better with time.

So what exactly do these guys think they will be able to do with their gun collection? Even if they have the guns and training, they wouldn't be able to hold out as long as the military would.. and they wouldn't have access to the resources that the military would either, even if they managed to get some militarized cops and sherriffs on their side. Most cops, would probably side with the government on this, and that is not even taking our allies or anything else into consideration.

Have they really thought this through?
Yeah we spend money we DON'T have, it has to be created out of thin air but that's another topic. I'll just say maybe we should have told the Viet Kong and Taliban that. If a large portion of the populace has weapons and is against a tyrannical regime, they would stand no chance and if they did they would have no one to control after everyone's dead.
