Have you ever advertised and left?

Way back in the days people used to get the post count to advertise their forum/site/whatever. Did you just do this way back, or accidently forget about the place? I try and remain semi-active even after posting.

The old thread would not display for me for some reason.

Not really, outside of when I was a package team member on a couple of sites I've never joined, posted for a day or two and then left. I tend to not join unless I'm going to be active within that community.

I honestly admit I used to do it, then saw zero point in doing so. I would try and stay around to post even if only a few times a day or every other day.

I kind of did this at RPG-Directory on Jcink. I only log in to bump my advertisement every month now. If I can't really relate to the forum, then I'll probably just post my advertisement and be on my way.

Anyway, posting an advert thread and leaving forever isn't really beneficial because people only see that advert thread for a day or two then it gets pushed back to the bottom of lists and buried.

I've never done that.

I just recently "allowed it" on my admin forum. To a certain degree... Someone could become a member, advertise on the showcase board as their first post and never come back.

But when they do, the catch is me sending them PMs or an email and trying to form a friendship with them.

The challenge I want is to convert that ad-and-run member to a loyal member.

I refuse to join anyone's forum who comes on, advertises, and then disappears. They don't realize that they are their forum. That they represent their forum. Forums are about getting to know people and socializing with your members. They need to do a better job of demonstrating that on a forum that is allowing them to advertise. Taking the time to socialize with people whom they want as their own members will be a bigger help to them than just posting their forum and being inactive. Being charismatic and charming will also get people to join. But if they just come onto a forum and spam ads for it and brag about how their forum is top shit, then no, I would rather they took a hike because that is annoying and it's a turn off.

I am not the kind of person who advertises and just leave. I always keep a track of my ad and try to see if the advertising has been beneficial.

Same here, I always log where I've posted an advert and go back to check on it or bump it from time to time.

I did, once upon a time (circa 2011), but not anymore. Nowadays, I always try to leave peoples' websites better off having had me there overall.

Well even if you did advertise and leave I supposed you helped that forum in one small way, you increased their member count by one member.
