I have a forum running on phpBB. I really like phpBB, it has a clean interface, is mobile-friendly, and loads very fast. It has an amazing community and you can get help and support easily. The only drawback is it is difficult to handle, especially if you are someone with zero knowledge of programming. Have you used phpBB, what do you think about phpBB.

I have used phpBB and really like it. It has improved over there years for sure. I remember when MOD installs required alot of manual editing and if you wanted it done automatically there was AutoMOD.. However it didn't always work.

It is pretty powerful and in depth when it comes to settings so that can certainly feel overwhelming.

It is has a bit of a learning curve when making a theme for it aswell. I did port my ClassyTeal/Teal Splash to it just for giggles.. It was.. interesting lol.

Overall I find it to be the 2nd best free forum software. It has stood the test of time for a reason :).

First forum I was ever a part of was an F1-related forum that was phpBB-based, so I've always had a soft spot for it.

I remember those days. I would do all the code and then go into the forum and realize I must've stuffed something up because there was an error.

Ah, phpBB was a fun one to watch in the early days. 1.4 was pure class, IMO, and 2.0 was nice, though I never did like their SubSilver theme. 3.0 was a good step forward, but here we are so many years later and development still carries on, just slowly. I wish them the best, I truly do, it would be amazing to see them reach a new major version once again. People were on the edge of their proverbial seats when 2.0 first hit, and 3.0 was massive news. They need that kind of a push once again, though that's the struggle for all freeware projects, getting the consistent push forward with a volunteer team of developers.

phpBB is a fantastic forum software that I recommend using. It's popular, free, and can be customized to suit your specific needs. With phpBB, you can effortlessly create and manage online communities. Personally, I really appreciate its user-friendly interface and the flexibility it offers. However, it's essential to keep in mind that each person's requirements are unique and some may prefer using paid scripts. However, this may not be in everyone's budget and phpBB is a great starter for opensource.

That's right especially ones that required a lot of edits in like 20 files find "this" replace or place before or after got old fast some you had to do database edits too and hope you had a database backup if it messed up.
The thing I hated was working half way through something and then getting distracted. Oops.

For some reason beyond me, phpBB is one of my least favorite forum software. I've maybe been a member of a few phpBB boards, but I've never owned one.

If only phpBB 4.0 was out last year. It is still the best option if you want a free forum software.
