How to get members?

A lot of it is word of mouth, that does help a lot, but it's a very difficult process these days, as forums tend to struggle more and more. Incentives help, like giveaways, but they can only do so much, retention is the next thing after that, and it's equally as difficult. Quality engagement makes it possible, though.

I like to participate in forum posts exchanges, I also get members joining by promoting my forums on different promotional forums. I've been wanting to do contests on my forums, but I can't currently do so just yet. I'm hoping when the time comes and I can start having contests, more people will join.

It's so complicated these days on how to get people to join a forum. People who are successful at it aren't sharing their secrets.

I think search engines can help bring in new members if your search engine ranking is really good and they find what they're looking for on your forum. I generally post on sites with similar content as mine with my ad attached to my signature for maximum exposure in every post you make. It's hard gaining new members for the most part unless you have something beneficial for a guest to actually register. I have the codes and skins hidden from guests on my forum, so I generate a fair amount of member registrations for the most part, but being a forum service board people rarely post and mostly come for the resources and leave.

I post advertisements for my forum. So far that's the only method I have tried, honestly. I also will have a post go out on FP's social media using their service they offered. I am unsure how many people it will bring if any, but whatever! :D

Every little helps:)
So far it's seeming to help going to forums and posting a thread/topic in their promotion forums. I also agree with just joining forums and being a member with your forum in your sig.

I join other forums and make sure I post as regularly as I can. I dont just pop in once in a blue moon..advertise my forum and go away again. (I have a rule about that) . People then join mine, hopefully, and all is well.

Simple question,

How do you get members to your forum?
One thing I recommend is to get out away from your forum and to other communities, groups, blogs, and sectors related to your niche.

And be friendly while being helpful to people asking for help in these areas. Try to be a problem-solver of your niche. Get noticed. Develop expertise. Be anyones friend.

When people start noticing you and they like you a lot and you're helpful, they'll flock to your forum just to be around you.

But being friendly and helpful no matter what is a must.

I only look for members, not troublemakers by joining other forums.

Telling people about your forum is the best way to do it. Make sure to tell people what your forum is about so they get interested.

Where is it appropriate to tell people about your forum though? If you're doing it in private messages, most forum owners will ban you or at least revoke your PM privileges for doing that.
