Sometimes, humour can really make a difference when things are tough.
It can lighten the mood and offer a fresh perspective. Do you find that laughing or making jokes helps you get through challenging times?

^That’s hilarious and can definitely lift your spirits with a good laugh.

It reminds me of a show I watch, long ago Gaki No Tsukai.
This episode was one of my favourites....if you laugh, you get punished!

The whacking & beatings are kinda cringy, but the concept is pretty funny! :D

Odd little coincidence, my son (Caucasian, 'white', typical American) speaks Japanese fluently and teaches English to mostly adult Japanese students in Japan.

If you watch a whole episode of this show, there’s more to it than just that. I’m not sure if it’s still around, but there were some great comedians on that show.

And as you might notice, the English lessons were purposely made bad for laughs. :p

Oh, that’s nice! A lot of people do teach English there(y)

Absolutely.

I always try to make others laugh, too. A good joke, a killer pun, a good-natured insult, some banter... and the pain just goes away.

Yes but sometimes it can be taken to far. What I mean is my husband jokes at everything and doesn't take me serious at times and I know he's just trying to help but it hurts and really doesn't help.

That’s lovely. This can really lift the mood.

I understand how that can feel. It’s great that he’s trying to lighten the mood, but it can be frustrating when it feels like you're not being taken seriously

I am that (hilarious) friend who will make jokes at inappropriate times. I don't mean to do it, it's just a reflex and though it may be at an inappropriate time I still find it funny.

I grew up in an abusive household and got bullied a lot so making jokes was my way of coping and making light of the situation. I will admit though I do consider who I'm around when I say said jokes. I do understand not everyone appreciates humour and even less appreciate humour at an innapropriate time.

Yes, I do, however, it has to be funny content I'm watching. I can't just crack a joke and then it helps me. Laughing is a very good distraction from all your other emotions. If I'm feeling like shit, and start watching a comedian, his jokes are therapeutic. As I listen to him, as I laugh, I'm forgetting why I was sad in the first place. Granted, this is my coping mechanism in general: burying myself in internet content to avoid the real world. Video games, netflix, etc.
