So I ask again to the anti gun people how would have this elderly man have protected his wife if he was not armed.

A robber in Tulsa, Oklahoma, became the latest criminal to learn how dangerous it is to put a man’s wife in danger.

Doug Jandebeur, 84, was getting into his truck parked outside of his Tulsa business on Monday night when he was approached by a robbery suspect. His wife was over on the passenger side.

Surveillance video obtained by KOTV-TV shows the suspect sneaking up behind Jandebeur. He reportedly ordered the man, “Don’t turn around, don’t turn around.”

The 84-year-old said he initially thought some of his friends were playing a prank on him. But then he felt the painful sting of a punch to the side of his face, letting him know the situation was serious and dangerous.

The robber then took Jandebeur’s wallet out of his pocket and started to make his way in the direction towards the man’s wife on the other side of the truck. That would prove to be a near-fatal mistake.

When he was done looking inside the wallet, the robber looked up and realized his life was in immediate danger. At that point, he ran for his life.

“I pulled out my automatic and was getting ready to ventilate him,” Jandebeur said. He added, “Once he saw my gun he decided to leave.”

The report didn’t specify what type of firearm the man was carrying.

The suspect escaped, but his face was captured on surveillance video so he likely won’t be free for too long. Jandebeur was left with a bruise on his face, but he didn’t seem very concerned about it.

Jandebeur, who has acquired a lot of life experience over 84 years, also offered some advice to his fellow Americans.

“Anybody who doesn’t arm themselves is asking for trouble,” he said.

In Delaware, the 84 year old would be facing charges for threatening with deadly force when the robber was unarmed.

No, I'm not kidding.

The state is solid Democrat and the elected home of Nebulous Biden. Which means, "You have the right to be a victim."

I don't think there's anything wrong with protecting yourself when you feel there is a legitimate threat, and this was the case here for this family. However, to keep trying to instill the thought that guns should be a staple in homes just like a vacuum might be is where I tend to disagree.  Back during the time where there was a very real, very dangerous and legitimate threat that someone would come in and hurt you and most likely get away with it, sure.  But that was a good 100 years ago and it depends on where you live in this country (obviously, some areas are much, much worse, and hell yeah you should have a gun).  Times have changed.  There's nothing wrong with not wanting to own or use a weapon, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to own and use a weapon either as long as it is within the law.

That is a very vague answer that really gives no answer.

Back when is today in a very real and dangerous world of thousands of victims of crime everyday in America.

And senior citizens are the most vulnerable and being targeted more then all others for attacks. That is today no different then in the past.

Who's law? New Yorks where you are a easy victim. So again I ask if the person chooses to follow a law that puts the persons life at risk who is going to protect the person or the family in the persons life?

All those democrats in cities and states for not allowing people to defend themselves are just as guilty and should be jailed just like the the criminals for every person who had no right to defend themselves.

So I ask again for all the people who don't believe in guns or think immoral laws trump self defense how should have this old mad defended his wife.

You seem to be missing my point, AND living in a world where someone is 100% going to break into your house, rob you, car jack you, or do something else to you, and that's pretty sad.  I'm sorry you live in such a scurry world.  In any case, I have stated my opinion and I'm sticking to it.  Until someone gives me a reason to need a gun, I won't have one.  But I have no judgment for the old couple who protected themselves.  Good on them.

I absolutely 100% agree with Dee's sentiments.

If others wish to retain the right TO bear arms then it goes without saying that I, too, have the right to choose NOT to bear an arm.

Hell, I've managed to continue to live-and-breathe in Stockton, CA, for over 3 years now - and Stockton's consistently ranked in Forbes' top 10 'Worst Cities in Which to Live' based on crime-stats, alone -

without a gun to *protect* me from the dredges of society. How sad others live in places where 100% of the time a boogeyman's about to get them.

I used to live in Fresno, born and raised until I was 7, and you know how nasty it was and is now.  Hell, it's even worse and you don't really hear a lot about break in's and stuff.  I still have family there.  And while there are pockets of bad neighborhoods, there's also no legitimate reason to own a gun unless there is an immediate threat.  I mean, where I live now in Portland, OR, you'd be stared at like you're an alien if you said you had a gun in your home unless you went out into the country where they wield them like cave men with poking sticks.  In any case, I can understand having a weapon and encouraging people to keep and use one when there is a real threat, but many of us live in parts of the country where it's just not necessary and downright silly.  To accuse someone of not wanting to keep a weapon is just as silly.

I am not missing your point it is because nothing in this world is 100% that other people should have ZERO say in how they choose or not to choose to protect themselves. And in my opinion the people who want to make other people helpless because they themselves think they are safe are no better then the person who committed the crime.

My wife was starting to think it was to much trouble to carry concealed some days until a wake call comes along. We live in a town that is consistently named one of the best places to live in the country. And even being in such a nice place to live our neighbor last week got attacked in front of her car with punches to face and being slammed against the car. We were at work but the neighbor on the opposite side of us who we are actually good friends with believe very strongly in the 2nd amendment came out with her pistol hearing the screaming yelled stop! And him seeing the gun in her hand ran off. We had police and helicopters for hours around us. They did get the guy the next day.

It is not about the people who freely choose to not arm themselves. It is about the people who should have just the same amount of freedom to protect themselves.

Somebody needs to have a good idea for me to have a open mind. And it is more likely for me to find a pot of gold in my back yard then the latter. But maybe when someone who wants to disarm all citizens can tell me how that senior citizen could have defended his wife without a gun I might crack open the door for some openness.

It must be a terrible burden to be The One Person on the Planet Who Knows It All and Is Right About Everything.

Personally, I hope I die the day before I know everything - of natural causes, of course and NOT from a gunshot to the head by a crazed mad-man who thinks I'm the boogeyman come to get him;

...the world would be an extremely boring place if I Knew It All, and there was no more mystery, intrigue, and knowledge left to gain or experience.

Who me? Lol! I hardly know everything. But will say I am pretty knowledgeable on personal freedoms and the limits of what governments powers should be. Now if you want to start a topic on quantum mechanics I am  all  spectator. And probably many, many other topics.

Oh.

If that's the case, you should stop typing as if you know everything.

It's difficult to carry on a discussion on a discussion board with someone who types as if they already know it all, so there's no need to converse with others.

Unless, of course, it's to virtually bow-beat others into submission.

BTW, it was you that I quoted who'd made the statement that it would be easier for you to find a pot of gold than to read a good idea from anyone else to which you'd be open to exploring.

Unfortunately, that's where you stunt yourself in your ability to understand that not all your thoughts, beliefs and morals are "right" or the only true way to live.  I mean, yes, they're apparently working for you, but when you shut out all other ideas and consider them stupid or "bad"because they don't follow your narrow view of the world, you're only doing harm to yourself.  No one is trying to tell you to live your life a different way, but to pass so much judgment on people who live differently from you is frankly very immature and ignorant.

Typing as I know everything? We're we talking about quantum mechanics and I missed it? No we are talking about a subject and subjects I am passionate about and quite knowledgeable about.

But I still will wait for a answer on my original question.

And I post these subjects and respond as a means of therapy when seeing the direction of our country. If you want to respond that's fantastic! If you want to ignore it that's great also. I can keep posting subjects and never have a response again. So no bowbeating unless you want it.

The robber then took Jandebeur’s wallet out of his pocket and started to make his way in the direction towards the man’s wife on the other side of the truck.

Couldn't the wife lock the doors on the truck and then blast the horn?

Sure and what if that made  the robber more angry and he went back beat the husband unconscious. Grabbed the Husbands keys and he could then take his time with her. The parking lot was empty in the video so no worries about honking the horn.

Are you kidding! There is a whole government telling me how to live my life and deciding and forcing me to with my money. If they weren't I would never have to post a political statement again and the crazy left could live there life as they please without imposing it on me.  So if that is ignorant and immature to strictly have a government run by our constitution with no deviations then I couldn't be prouder then to be in the company of our founders. A gang of ignorant and immature freedom fighters.

Oh.  We're going to play the "what if" game to dispel any other possible - and equally effective - choices.

OK, then.  What if the elderly man experienced a seizure from the excitement of it all and, instead of shooting the idiot dead, only grazed him, thus causing the idiot to become even angrier and then the idiot grabbed the gun from the elderly man and shot him dead and then shot his wife dead and then went on a shooting spree throughout town, killing as many people as possible, and in the midst of it an errant bullet shot a gas pump and blew up the whole town, forever wiping it off the map and taking thousands of innocent people with it?!?

~Voila~  Equal proof-positive there should be no guns, anywhere, ever, under any circumstances because something amiss could happen.

Some of you appear to not understand the basic *rules* of "debate".

Jus' sayin'.

So what you are saying is he should not be armed and if it was his time to be murdered so be it, tough luck and to bad for you. And hopefully the next victim will have better luck.

Jazzy said:
Was this robber armed?

Does not appear he was. But the victims were very old senior citizens and did not stand a chance against this guy. But we will never know if he had a knife or gun thanks to the husband being able to defend himself and not go hand to hand to protect the wife.
