In your opinion is Elite and VIP the same?

Do you think that V.I.P and elite is the same thing? Or are they different ranks or groups?

I supposed it would depend on the forum in question but most would probably see both as being the same thing.

Well, VIP means a very important person.



I googled Elite and got this..

A group of people considered to be the best in a particular society or category, esp. because of their power, talent, or wealth.



So, I suppose it's a question of whether you think being very important is the same as

being the best.

I think that it depends on how the forum is set up to reward members. Before I came to Off Topix, I had never heard of an Elite rank. I had been on other forums where to become a VIP member, you had to donate a certain amount of money.

I think they are all the same thing, just called different things.

Depends on the forum, and what one has to do to earn each title.

Elite is something earned. A long term member or a contributor of exceptional status either for Quality or even Quantity of posts, or somebody that wrote a big check to help establish the forum.





VIP is something bestowed on the member for what they've done outside. Such as if a former Governor of a state signed up for a political discussion forum.





Now the 'board permissions' (write, create, edit, etc) they get may be identical, but the title bestows a different honor.

To a degree both would mean the same but there may be popular websites out there giving away both groups with different permissions. It's on a forum to forum basis most of the time but one would think both are the same.
