Would you use ketchup as a dipping sauce with your steak?

I mean, there are worse sauces, but I'm sure we can do better! For example: last time I had steak, I had it with bordelaise sauce, which was very nice :) .

On the other hand, if I'm having chips with my steak, I'll probably have some ketchup with my chips :) .

I personally wouldn’t put ketchup on steak, but I also wouldn’t find it all that strange. A lot of steak sauces actually use ketchup or tomato bases anyway, so the flavor profile isn’t as far off as people make it sound. It’s just that most folks expect it to be mixed into something more “sauce‑like” instead of being used straight.

So while it’s not something I’d choose, I get why someone might. Taste is taste, and if it works for them, no harm done.

No ketchup on the steak. That is a crime, except if it is really bad and needs to be covered with something, and even then, it can be questioned. The most I will do is squeeze some lemon on the steak, and that will also depend on what it has been marinated in.

If there was no other option but ketchup then I would use that.
