Kidney Stones

No, not offhand; known a few people who have.

Yes. Absolutely horrible. Had one so large it was impossible to pass naturally, they had to go in and remove it. That's an ordeal...

No I hope I never have to!! I hear thats the male equivalent to childbirth.

Yes, going to be a chronic sufferer with them sadly. I go to the urologist later today for a kidney ultrasound and then to see him. Did my x-ray already yesterday
Isn't there ANYTHING you can do to help to prevent further episodes?; like diet changes or something?

Drink a shit ton of water for sure, and my case is kind of weird. Medullary Sponge Kidney I found out last ultrasound and stil with the recent one. From what I read online it seems this condition can even cause the kidney stones, so diet changes it seems won't do any good. Urologist seems to suggest perhaps a kidney transplant, but I find it is not fair to suggest or attempt it till I am at end stage or close to it. There's many people who have been waiting for years for a kidney. Note he says it is 'in appearance', but the frequent UTIs throughout the years seems to point to this.

Complications of medullary sponge kidney include

hematuria, or blood in the urine
kidney stones
urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Edit: Both kidneys have this, not one. Both kidneys have CKD 3b.

Oh my! That does complicate things for sure!
Sure do agree with your decision about a transplant. But I have to wonder, since the waiting list is so long, if you should go ahead & get on the list; when your name comes up, if you're still undecided or for whatever reason, you could just decline. I have no idea how that works.
A drawback of that idea, though, would be what if you have to go back to "start" on the waiting list.
Dang! I just hope that MSK diagnosis might be wrong. In the meantime just drink lots of water!!!!

There's a bunch of hoops from support groups I am in about a transplant. Some of them make sense like losing weight, then went 'wtf' at like having to get a dental health checkup. I don't have dental health insurance with my plan anymore sadly, and even if I did I'd still need to pay up front a bit I bet... Also the other issue are my parents basically being concerned about a kidney transplant just because of one person my mom knows. My moms friend kid has had kidney issues for ages and had failed kidney transplants, so they assume it'd be the same for me I guess. I also did read not every single transplant center is the same.

I can ask my kidney doctor what he suggests, but am betting he will not do so till the kidney function is more fucky than it is. It's at a 31 right now, so not good not bad? As for MSK I think getitng two ultrasounds done does confirm it. My kidney doctor talked as if it was legit/true too.

Dental insurance usually sucks and only covers a small amount (like $2000 a year). Every time I go to to the dentist they send me a bill for something afterwards (insurance only covered this but not that, a percentage of this or that, etc)

Yeah, it does suck ass. They require like a dental checkup for some reasons and then getting your teeth fixed if something is wrong. I think to just ensure no infection or whatever. Not every kidney transplant center apparently does this.

I've never had them before thankfully but my friend gets them all the time. He's in constant pain and even had them blasted and broken up into smaller pieces so he can pass them better. There's been times where my spouse and I helped him do chores since he was in lots of pain.
